DEER'S HEAD HOSPITAL CENTER
We have been making fun and frequent visits to Deer's Head, a state-run, long-term care and chronic illness hospital, since way back in September, 2010. We visit Deer’s Head patients and residents at least twice weekly in their rooms, the rehab center, the Activities Therapy room and common areas. Our friends at Deer's Head can feel discouraged and isolated sometimes. So we interact with them in ways that are designed to cheer them up and encourage them to socialize with others by giving them something fresh to talk about, like US, and favorite dogs of their own that we bring to mind for them. We hear the GREATEST DOG STORIES from our Deer's Head pals! And, for "perk-me-ups," we get plenty of chances to show off our tricks for the Deer's Head gang.
During the summer of 2013, we got the Deer’s Head gang on TRAC by introducing our “therapeutic recreation assisted by canines” program in partnership with the Activities Therapy Staff! In April, 2014, we teamed up with the Staff again to present a 90-minute seminar on TRAC at The 38th Annual Mid-Eastern Symposium on Therapeutic Recreation in Ocean City! And we came home with a BIG PRIZE - the MESTR 2014 "Best New Program Award" for TRAC at Deer's Head!
